From Australia to the US: Process Analytics Factory on international growth course

  • Strong growth: numerous well-known new customers for PAFnow Process Mining
  • Global orientation: Internationalization of the customer structure
  • Comprehensive democratization: free entry, installation-free integration and direct real-time optimization via Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Office 365
  • Far-reaching partnerships: Implementation of managed services with consulting firms and development of data-driven business models

The Process Analytics Factory (PAF) has successfully continued its growth path in 2019 with the Process Mining tool PAFnow. For example, numerous well-known customers from the DACH region opted for the Process Mining tool PAFnow, which is integrated in the world’s leading Business Intelligence solution Microsoft Power BI. These include Daimler AG, Heidelberg Druck and Viessmann, a globally operating energy system manufacturer that recently implemented the world’s largest ERP transformation to SAP® S/4HANA in the industrial environment. Other new DACH customers include 1&1 Telecommunication, the shoe production and distribution company Wortmann KG and Giesecke+Devrient with solutions for securing payment processes, identities, connectivity and data.

In addition, PAF was able to win new customers in all important regions worldwide. These include, for example, the global packaging company Amcor in the USA, the energy provider Fortis in Canada, the global market leader in implantable hearing aids in Australia or with BCI Bank in Chile, one of the biggest banks in Latin America.

In line with the successes on the American continent last year, PAF was selected as a participant in the German Accelerator Program in February 2020. PAF will thus gain access to a global network of partners and investors with its Process Mining tool PAFnow and will be supported by experienced experts and mentors in New York from April to June 2020 in its expansion course in the USA.

Easy and for everyone: democratization of Process Mining as a factor for success

A central driver of growth is PAFnow as a Process Mining application, with which PAF is the international leader in the price-performance ratio among Process Mining providers. In addition to a very large scope of services for Process Mining, AI and Analytics, a major advantage of PAFnow is its integration with Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Office 365. This low Process Mining entry barrier is part of the global democratization strategy of the PAF.

PAFnow Process Mining is available free of charge for all companies in Microsoft AppSource. The same applies to the desktop version of Microsoft Power BI. In addition, the application is installation-free, and users can access reports in a user-friendly manner in the familiar working environment of Microsoft Office 365. The licensed versions PAFnow PRO, PREMIUM and ENTERPRISE are available for more extensive use. Due to the many visualizations directly available in Microsoft Power BI and more than 150 data and 250 action connectors, companies can quickly and with minimal use of resources implement the optimization of any business processes based on PAFnow Insights. These include Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Workflow Automation or Machine Learning.

This is also where PAF CEO Tobias Rother sees a clear competitive advantage for PAF:
“One thing is very clear from the discussions with our customers: The choice of PAFnow is a strategic decision for them. Whoever wants to start with Process Mining quickly and easily and on the other hand considers unlimited enterprise functionality as well as a comprehensive rollout in the company within the existing reporting and Microsoft Office 365 environment will not find a more suitable solution at the moment. PAF entry-level projects usually take less than ten days from proof of concept to ROI-relevant optimization effects”.

Disruptive and innovative: Process Mining in Microsoft Office 365

With PAFnow, PAF focuses on a disruptive business model, which is in most cases cheaper and better than comparable isolated solutions for all customers, partners and manufacturers. The smart integration of Process Mining into the digital workplace Office 365 delivers process knowledge in real time and thus concrete solutions for process problems, answers to process questions and new possibilities for process automation.

“For every user of Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Power Automate- as well as Microsoft Office 365, PAFnow is the logical choice”, PAF CEO Tobias Rother explains the growth prospects of PAF. “With the low entry barrier of PAFnow, which comes with the use in Microsoft Power BI and our free version, we also remove the question of budget and ROI. With PAFnow any company worldwide can start with Process Mining virtually overnight. This is exactly what more than 1000 user companies have done in 2019”, Tobias Rother continues.

With the successful launch of PAFnow 2019.1 last year, PAF has fundamentally revised and expanded the Process Mining Tool and has been able to gain a large number of new users: “PAFnow 2019.1 is a true quantum leap. The completely new and intuitive interface makes digital process analysis a breeze. The novel functionalities of PAFnow are exactly tailored to the needs of our users. PAFnow 2019.1 offers unique possibilities to analyze processes even easier and faster – directly in the existing infrastructure. With the updates coming up for 2020, we will consistently continue on this path of user-oriented optimization“, explains Timo Nolle, Executive Vice President and CTO of PAF.

New digital business models with consulting companies

PAFnow also continues to establish itself as the preferred solution for consulting firms such as Rödl & Partner, Protiviti or PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). PwC and PAF work together to develop innovative digital business models based on Process Mining techniques. Existing methods for user companies will be further developed so that they can easily and conveniently use Process Mining technologies as part of a managed service to achieve a continuous improvement process.

“Having excellent processes gives you a clear competitive advantage. PwC develops customized analyses and individual optimization measures for companies. As part of the ongoing development of our ProMaaS (Process Mining as a Service) offering, we work closely with PAF, which is an international leader in innovation research in the field of Process Mining,” says Christian Bartmann, Partner Risk Assurance Solutions, PwC Germany.

More and more PAF partners provide the process analysis and diagnostic knowledge gained with PAFnow in corresponding service offers for their customers, for example for pay-per-use payment models.

In addition, a globally valid partner agreement was signed with Protiviti USA and a decision was made with the Dutch company Mavim to include PAFnow in the OEM portfolio of the digital twin software provider. Jean-Jacques Vossen, CEO of Mavim, commented on the cooperation: “We at Mavim are really excited to work with PAF. Together we will enable our customers to improve their transformation activities based on process data. This is because we enable every company to continuously identify, design and improve its business processes. We are particularly proud to work with a company that shares our vision of making process analysis based on Microsoft technology available to a wider public.”

Practice-oriented innovation research

In 2019, PAF continued to research in the development of comprehensive Artificial Process Intelligence, for example by integrating technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Analytics, Industry 4.0/IoT, Blockchain and Robotic Process Automation. For example, within the framework of the BMBF-funded research project ProPlanE, the prototype of an analysis platform was successfully developed, with which production planning can be optimized in real time on the basis of Process Mining methods. For this purpose, production data, planning data and customer data for production planning were linked and evaluated at runtime. This is one of the first projects ever in which production was directly linked to Process Mining.

Expansion of internationalization and democratization in 2020

PAF CEO Tobias Rother sees great potential for growth for PAF in the German-speaking countries, but especially with international customers: “Microsoft Power BI continues to grow on a global scale. The same applies to Process Mining, which is currently the talk of the town. Both trends ensure that PAFnow Process Mining is a particularly attractive solution because many companies already have the Power BI environment and can use PAFnow in their existing reporting infrastructure installation-free and conveniently for their Process Mining projects. Especially on an international level, the low entry barriers due to the Power BI integration have proven to be a competitive advantage for PAFnow.”
