Innovation is a key priority at PAF

We are a recognized innovation leader in the field of Process Mining. In our research projects, we combine Process Mining, Artificial Intelligence, blockchain and RPA to develop advanced technologies that give our customers an even greater advantage over the competition. In all of this, we are supported by extensive government funding to turn RND projects into innovative products and services in close collaboration with leading research institutes and partners.

With the finalization of our latest research project KI.RPA, PAF can now list a total of 5 successful research projects. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners, the State of Hesse and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for their excellent cooperation and support.

Process Analytics: Next Generation Automated Process Mining

The goal of the successfully completed innovation project under the leadership of PAF with the project partners TU Darmstadt, Service Trace GmbH and Südwestrundfunk (SWR) was the enhancement of knowledge acquisition through a search in large data sets based on process analytics. An integrated analytical metrics tool for benchmarking enables the comparison of results and processes and thus the creation of meaningful diagnostic reports. Within the scope of the development project, a new, easy-to-use, and immediately usable technology for operational process diagnostics was developed. The developed software solution assists companies in drawing up well-founded decisions for the optimization of business processes. Further features are currently being implemented. Process Analytics Factory GmbH received the top rating of “very good” from the project sponsor for the implementation of the project in terms of degree of goal achievement, efficiency, exploitation possibilities, transferability of scientific work, research results, market launch and general project management.

DRUP: Deep Reasoning for Automated Problem Identification in Unknown Processes

The goal of this research project led by PAF with project partners TU Darmstadt, Flowdocs GmbH and Südwestrundfunk (SWR) was to develop accelerated approaches in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to better understand and subsequently improve process structures of unknown operational data. Non-value-added activities in business processes are automatically identified and visualized. Direct derivation of recommended actions, forecasts and templates for business process improvement will be sped up. Deep Reasoning will help companies achieve productivity gains across value chains to prepare business processes for transformation or digitization. The development of prototypes into broadly usable product features is under implementation.

ProPlanE: Industry 4.0 Real-time Process Intelligence

The manufacturing industry is particularly affected by the changes of the digital transformation of Industry 4.0. Companies face the challenge of controlling proactively in time-sensitive situations. However, this often lacks a link between different data (e.g. ERP data, machine data and production planning data) to enable real-time production planning. The goal of the PAF-led project ProPlanE with the project partners Deutsches Forschungsinstitut für Künstliche Intelligenz GmbH, Incloud GmbH, Brabant & Lehnert GmbH and Robert Bosch GmbH was to develop an analysis platform that combines this data, analyzes it using next-generation Process Mining algorithms and thus makes it usable for planning. The project developed a new software architecture for solving planning optimization problems in real time.

ProcessChain: Blockchain and smart contracts for monitoring cross-company processes

The digitization and networking of all business processes has been a stable trend for years, affecting not only internal processes, but recently also cross-company processes in particular. The trust of the parties involved creates the basis for the innovation and efficiency of collaboration. Blockchain technology, as the technical basis of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, opens up a wide range of innovations. In the ProcessChain research project led by Mansystems Deutschland GmbH and the project partners PAF, Deutsches Forschungsinstitut für Künstliche Intelligenz GmbH, Saarland University, juris-Stiftungsprofessur für Rechtsinformatik, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH, BGV Versicherungen and Henkel AG, this technology is used to realize a process-based blockchain for monitoring cross-company business processes. The ProcessChain platform implemented in the project enables the cross-company handling of business processes without the use of a central control instance, which must be trusted by all partners involved. The considerable innovation potential of the platform will be piloted and evaluated on selected cross-company demonstration processes from various industries such as supply chain management as well as service management.

KI.RPA Robotic Process AI Automation

The goal of the innovation project KI.RPA led by Servicetrace GmbH, Process Analytics Factory GmbH (PAF), the non-profit August-Wilhelm-Scheer-Institute for Digital Products and Processes (AWSi), the Telecooperation Laboratory (TK) of the Technical University of Darmstadt and application partner Deutsche Telekom Service GmbH (DTS) is the development of Artificial Process Intelligence software technologies in order to use existing resources in the area of human-machine interaction in companies more efficiently. Robots are independently trained in the use of applications and carry out process steps in a rule-based manner like an employee, but across departments and independent of applications. In the funded project, the possibility is created to convert process knowledge by means of Artificial Intelligence into dynamic user interaction, which is automated. KI.RPA will be a process optimization technology that learns and acts autonomously.
